Dental implants abroad: the real total
Implant prices for 17 countries (16 with a figure) from surveys or clinics' own price pages, and a home-versus-abroad calculator with trips, hotel, days off and repairs.

Two kinds of figure, kept apart. Official or consumer-survey numbers exist for very few countries. Everywhere else the numbers come from price lists clinics post on their own sites, which makes them advertising rather than a survey, and they are labeled that way wherever they appear. A quote you type into the calculator always replaces them.
How the calculator behaves. Set your country and a destination; the destination is preset only where a cheaper, reachable option is plain from the table below (Mexico from the US or Canada, Hungary from the UK, Ireland, Germany or France, Thailand from Australia) and is left empty for everyone else. Its clinic price shows up under the choice in your own currency, converted at the ECB's euro reference fixing of October 30, 2026, together with the gap on treatment alone. No saving is claimed until you fill in a return flight and a hotel price (0 is accepted for a free stay); before that the tool only shows the treatment-only difference, with a warning. Nights per trip, the number of trips and the repair reserve start empty and count as 6, 2 and 0 until you type something else.
Why the sticker price misleads
An implant is rarely done in one visit. The post goes into the jaw first, and the crown is fitted once the bone has grown around it, usually three to six months later. Abroad, that means two return trips, two hotel stays and often unpaid days off, twice. A quote that looks half the price at home can end up close to it once those are added, and the calculator above adds them for you.
It also asks for a repair reserve. If a crown loosens or an implant fails after you're home, a local dentist may charge to fix work they didn't do. There is no official figure for how often that happens per country, so the reserve is your own assumption: it stays at 0 until you set it.
Price of one complete implant tooth, by country
Seventeen countries are listed; sixteen have a figure and India has none. "Complete" means the post in the bone, the abutment and the crown. Where four or more separate clinics publish a comparable full starting price, the middle one (the median) is shown. Where fewer do, the table gives the prices found and their median, marked rough middle, never the midpoint of the range.
| Country | Figure | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| United States | about $4,000 (median) | Survey of 278 offices, Dental Economics, Feb. 2026; scaled by state on the home page |

| Ireland | €1,998 median, €1,740 to €2,400 | 4 clinics' own price pages (31 Oct 2026) |
| Spain | €1,850 median | What people reported paying, OCU survey, 27 Nov 2024; crown not specified |

| France | €1,460 to €2,350; rough middle €2,345 | 3 clinics |
| Romania | 4,672 lei median, 3,598 to 6,300 lei | 5 clinics, mostly Bucharest (about €874 at the ECB reference rate for 30 Oct 2026) |

| Türkiye | UK£380 to UK£450; rough middle UK£415 | 2 clinics pricing foreign patients in UK pounds sterling, not lira; entry implant brands, premium brands from UK£680 at one of them |
| Mexico | US$1,300 to US$2,000; rough middle about US$1,500 | 3 clinic groups pricing in US dollars; one brand's two branches count once, at the average of their prices |
| Costa Rica | US$1,100 to US$1,600; rough middle US$1,600 | 3 clinics |
| Colombia | COL$3,800,000 to 5,400,000; rough middle COL$4,600,000 | 2 clinics |
| Thailand | ฿50,000 to ฿65,000; rough middle ฿65,000 | 3 clinics, one of which names the crown but not the abutment (without it, ฿57,500) |
| Australia | A$3,250 to A$4,966; rough middle A$3,995 | 3 clinics; CHOICE lists implant insertion at A$1,334 to A$3,000 and the abutment at A$400 to A$1,404, crown not included |
| Canada | C$3,300 | a single clinic |
| India | no figure | No clinic page with a clear full price |
The UK, Irish and Romanian rows were read on October 31, 2026. Every clinic in the other rows was read again on November 6, 2026; two Mexican clinics had raised their implant post by US$100 since the first reading, and the Mexico row uses the newer prices.
Where a clinic figure comes from. Only a clinic's own price list counts here; agencies, marketplaces and comparison sites are left out. A line is used only when it covers post, abutment and crown together, either as one price or as parts the clinic itself lists. When a clinic offers several implant brands, the cheapest complete option is taken, so these are entry prices. Prices stay in the currency the clinic uses, apart from the Romanian part-prices given in euros. Branches of one brand count as a single group. We keep the clinic names and addresses in our working notes, off this page, so nobody is advertised. Expect scans, extractions, grafts and consultations to be billed on top.
What public insurance pays, five countries
| Country | What the public system pays toward an implant | Official source, date |
|---|---|---|
| United States | In most cases Original Medicare doesn't pay for dentures and implants | Medicare.gov, dental services |
| United Kingdom | NHS Band 3 (£332.10 in England) covers crowns, bridges and dentures; implants aren't in the bands | NHS, band charges, reviewed 13 Mar 2025 |
| Germany | A fixed subsidy of 60% of the standard treatment, 70% or 75% with a bonus booklet; choosing an implant keeps the subsidy, you pay the difference | Verbraucherzentrale, 26 Jan 2026 |
| Australia | Medicare generally doesn't cover adult dental care | healthdirect |
| Canada | The Canadian Dental Care Plan may leave you to pay for services it doesn't cover; check its benefit guide for implants | Canada.ca, CDCP coverage, 27 Aug 2026 |
In Germany the 2026 subsidy for a standard crown is €239.03 without a bonus and €298.79 with the full bonus; for a standard bridge, €552.96 and €691.20 (same source). With an implant you receive the subsidy for the standard treatment your gap would have needed and pay the rest under the private fee scale.
Questions to ask a clinic abroad, in writing
- Which implant system and which crown material, by brand name, so a dentist at home can source parts.
- What the guarantee covers, for how long, and whether it needs you to fly back.
- Whether the price includes the scan, any extraction, bone graft or sinus lift, the abutment and the final crown.
- What happens if the bone isn't ready for the crown on the second trip.
- A copy of the scans and the treatment notes, in a language your dentist reads.
Worked example
A tooth quoted at 4,500 at home and 1,500 abroad, both in your currency. Two trips, each with a 400 flight and 6 nights at 70, add 2 × (400 + 420) = 1,640. Four unpaid days at 150 add 600. A 10% reserve on the treatment adds 150. The total abroad is 1,500 + 1,640 + 600 + 150 = 3,890, so going saves 610. For one tooth, the trips are most of the cost; for four teeth on the same trips, the saving grows to 18,000 − (6,000 + 1,640 + 600 + 600) = 9,160.
Limits of these figures
None of these numbers says anything about the quality of a clinic. Prices and standards vary inside every country, and a low quote says nothing about the implant brand, the dentist's training or the follow-up care. Talk to your dentist at home before you book, and keep every quote in writing.
